Original Licensing Information
Qualifying for and Obtaining an Arizona Real Estate License
Original real estate, cemetery and membership camping salesperson's and broker's licenses are issued for a term of two (2) years. License renewal must occur on or before the last day of the month in which the license was issued. Renewals are for a two (2) year period.
Pursuant to A.R.S. §32-2124 – All applicants for an original real estate, cemetery or membership camping license shall show evidence satisfactory to the Commissioner:
- Of the honesty, truthfulness, character and competency of the applicant.
- That the applicant has not had a real estate license denied within one year, or revoked within two years immediately preceding the application.
- That the applicant is at least 18 years of age when applying for a license.

Previously Licensed in Arizona – Individuals previously licensed in Arizona in a terminated status who did not renew within one year of expiration, may qualify for a recertification of pre-licensing education, with the proof of a retake and passing of the Pearson-VUE examination, based on prior Arizona education and licensure. The Pre-licensure education is valid for ten years (A.R.S. §32-2124-B). Originally licensed individuals in Arizona, who obtained their real estate pre-license education more than 10 years ago, cannot be relicensed in Arizona without a current 90 hours of pre-licensing education and a retake and passing of the Pearson-VUE examination. All other license application requirements must be met as well.
Education – Pre-licensing education must be completed in-classroom or online from an ADRE approved Arizona real estate school. The school may provide you with a copy of the Candidate Handbook, or you may access it online here. Examinations - After completion of the pre-licensing course and passing the school’s final examination, the school will issue a Pre-licensure Education Certificate as verification that the pre-licensure education requirement has been met. Upon receiving the Pre-licensure Education Certificate, and for the Broker examination when the Broker Candidate Experience Verification Form (LI-226) is completed, contact the testing administrator, Pearson VUE at 888-405-5776, or https://home.pearsonvue.com/az/realestate to register, and schedule to take the Arizona examination. Examinations are given by appointment only.
An original Pre-Licensure Education Certificate must be presented to the examination site. Two forms of current personal signature identification, one government issued with a photo are required for presentation. All original documents must be presented at the examination site to allow for participation in the examination. An incomplete package of documents may require the approval process to begin anew.
The fee to take or retake a single part of the License Examination is the same as the fee to take the entire examination. Access the most current Fee Schedule.
Americans with Disabilities Act – The Arizona Department of Real Estate and Pearson VUE comply with the American with Disabilities Act. Persons with disabilities may request reasonable accommodations such as interpreters, alternative formats or assistance with physical accessibility. Arizona Real Estate Statutes and Commissioner’s Rules – All Arizona licensees, whether active or inactive, must have available for their use a current copy of the Department’s statutes and rules. The Arizona Real Estate Law Book, published by the Department, contains the required material. The law book may be purchased at the ADRE office in Phoenix by mail, or through the Message Center.

Substantive Policy Statement No 2005-05, provides that making the Arizona Real Estate Law Book available via the web meets the requirement of every licensee having it available for their use.
Requirements:
- Age - Be at least 18 years of age when applying for a license
- Education – Complete 90 hours of “in classroom” or online Real Estate Salesperson pre-licensing education at an approved Arizona real estate school and pass the examination at an ADRE approved real estate school, college or university. - Fingerprint Clearance Card - Fingerprint Clearance Cards (FCC) are issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS). The application packet may be obtained from DPS, or the pre-license real estate schools. The process for obtaining the Fingerprint Clearance Card may take as long as eight – ten weeks.
- Disciplinary Actions Disclosure Form (LI-214/244) - Information and documentation relating to the applicant’s background must be provided upon application for licensure. Date of birth and Social Security Number are required. Criminal convictions and background disclosure on the Disciplinary Actions Disclosure Form (LI-214/244), found at www.azre.gov or in the Candidate Handbook, must be completed by all applicants, and depending on disclosures made, additional documents and information may be required. The Department CANNOT issue a license to a person convicted of a felony who is incarcerated, paroled or under community supervision or on probation. The Department may not issue a license to a person who has been convicted of a felony, or convicted of a misdemeanor offense, such as (but not limited to) theft, forgery, extortion, conspiracy to defraud, violence against another person, or crimes of moral turpitude. A Fingerprint Clearance Card (FCC) issued by DPS is required by all applicants at time of application.
- Disclosure Document Checklist (LI-400) - When applying for an original license and disclosing a criminal conviction, adverse civil judgment, or denial of or discipline against a professional or occupational license on the Disclosure Document Checklist Form (LI-400), additional documents and information identified on must be provided. Forms are available on the ADRE website www.azre.gov, under Forms Library and included in the Candidate Handbook.
- Contract Writing Class – Prior to License Application attendance at a 6 hour Contract Writing Class, (including certificate) is required.
- Fees – Fees are listed on the License Fee Schedule at www.azre.gov. The Department accepts Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover card, checks or money order.
Schedule Exam Date – Contact Pearson VUE at www.pearsonvue.com to schedule the examination. Be prepared to provide to the exam administrator two forms of current signature identification, including one government issued I.D. with photo and the Salesperson Education Certificate for the 90 hours of schooling. Submitting an application by 5 pm on the last business day of the one year period will require a retake and passing of the examination.

- Broker Management Clinic – Completion of the 9 hours of Broker Management Clinic courses is required before becoming licensed as a Broker.
- Broker Candidate Experience Verification (Form LI-226) – Broker applicants must demonstrate three (3) years of actively licensed experience as a licensed real estate agent or broker within the past five (5) years, immediately preceding license application.
- When applying for a license, the applicant must complete the Broker Candidate Experience Verification form (LI-226), confirming the applicant’s experience.
- Experience in a state other than Arizona requires a license history from the state(s) in which the salesperson or broker’s license was held during the past five years.
- Although not required, the Broker Candidate Experience Verification form may be submitted to the Department prior to exam scheduling to confirm that they have the required actively licensed experience.

Associate Broker Hiring On With a Broker – A currently licensed salesperson must log onto www.azre.gov, online services, to sever the salesperson license immediately prior to ADRE staff processing the approved Broker license application. When the Broker license application is approved and completed, reflecting all new information, log onto www.azre.gov and hire on as an Associate Broker to the company. The Designated Broker must access the ADRE online system to approve the hire, prior to the licensee being legal to work, which will then show “active” for the Associate Broker. If not hiring on online, at time of original Broker license application, provide the Salesperson/Associate Broker Change Form (LI-202), signed by the hiring Broker.
Designated Broker Hire On – A licensed Broker, applying for a Designated Broker’s license, should submit an Entity/Broker Status Change Form (LI-216) or an entity license application along with the Entity/Broker Status Change Form (LI-216), Click here to request further information regarding Broker Entity licensing.

There is no prescribed pre-licensure education leading to licensure as a cemetery salesperson or broker, or membership camping salesperson or broker.
A.R.S. § 32-2124 (A)(2) and (F) stipulates the qualifications leading to cemetery licensure, specifically general understanding areas (Title 32, Article 6).
A.R.S. § 32-2124 (A)(3) and (G) stipulates the qualifications leading to membership camping licensure, specifically general understanding areas (Title 32, Article 10).
